Heat, the key to decarbonization: how can we meet the energy challenge while maintaining industrial competitiveness?

Organised by "Energy"

Energy savings

The "Energy" Group would like to inform you of this conference organized by the "Energy" Professional Group of Arts et Métiers with the following speaker for the evening:

Benjamin Fremaux, President of IDEX Group

Heat consumption alone accounts for almost half of final energy consumption in France, supplying industrial processes, building heating and domestic hot water. This is where the real challenge of decarbonization lies, as 65% of this heat still comes from fossil fuels such as fuel oil or gas. To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, we need to invest over €60 billion a year in energy renovation and low-carbon energy production infrastructures.

The industrial sector is particularly concerned by this energy transition. Companies are faced with a twofold injunction: maintain their competitiveness while decarbonizing their activities. This balance is difficult to achieve, given the volatility of energy prices and the colossal financing requirements. Yet solutions do exist.

Under the presidency of Benjamin Fremaux, Idex has established itself as an integrated platform that develops, designs, finances, builds and operates local, low-carbon energy infrastructures to decarbonize heat in industry, regions and buildings.

By 2024, the Group has invested nearly 300 million euros in infrastructure that will prevent the emission of over 850,000 tonnes of CO₂, while generating sales of 2.16 billion euros.

Course:

Benjamin Fremaux is an expert in the energy sector. He began his career at the French Ministry of the Economy, first in a regional industry department and then as energy and sustainable development advisor to Christine Lagarde.

In 2011, Benjamin Fremaux was appointed AREVA's Chief Strategy Officer, before becoming Chief Operating Officer of ETC, a subsidiary of AREVA and URENCO dedicated to the production of centrifuges for uranium enrichment.

He then spent five years as an investment banker in Paris, developing financial expertise with customers in the energy infrastructure, renewable energies and energy services sectors.

Appointed CEO of Idex in December 2019, he becomes the group's Chairman less than a year later.

Benjamin Fremaux is also an associate expert at the Institut Montaigne on energy and climate issues. He is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Corps des Mines.
