Digital technology for biodiversity

According to WWF's latest Living Planet Report, wild vertebrate populations have declined by 73% since 1970.

According to the IPBES (Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) report published in 2019, around 1 million animal and plant species are currently threatened with extinction.

These are just two of the many alarming statistics on the decline of terrestrial biodiversity caused by human activities. In response, several multilateral initiatives have been launched to protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems.

In this webinar, we will discuss tools for quantifying the risk of biodiversity loss, as well as examples of how AI and satellite imagery can be used to limit erosion.

We'll be discussing these issues with our guests:

  • Philippe Ciais, Research Director at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement (LSCE-IPSL) of the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA- CNRS). He is a member of the French Academy of Sciences and lead author of the 5th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
  • Nathalie Borgeaud, Senior Sovereign Advisor at Finance for Biodiversity and a member of the Climate and Sustainable Finance Commission of the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR).
  • Imène Ben Rejeb-Mzah, Head of Data Analysis and Environmental Research at BNP Paribas and member of the Financial Industry Advisory Board of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
