Low Tech Film Debate

TheESSEC Transition Alumni Club, theDigital & Technology Club , the Groupe Transition Écologique des Ponts, and Telecom Paris, with the support ofAlumni ACT, invite you to take part in a Ciné Débat around the screening of a documentary on the Low Tech approach.

What if being a pioneer in technology and innovation wasn't just a matter of rushing headlong into the promises of artificial intelligence? What if another vision of technology were possible? A technology where progress is not necessarily synonymous with performance, at the cost of new externalities (alienation, environmental impact, etc.) but rather means resilience, accessibility and sobriety?

What if "doing useful things with little" replaced "doing more and more and more"?

Low Tech is all about designing and disseminating useful, sustainable techniques and know-how that are accessible to everyone.

The documentary "Low Tech", directed by Adrien Bellay, will take us on a journey to meet citizens who, on a daily basis, are experimenting and taking action to democratize this approach. Whether they are young engineers, farmers or entrepreneurs, they repair their everyday machines, produce their own energy or manufacture their own means of production.
The screening will be followed by a debate to better understand how Low Tech can be integrated into our daily lives, our businesses and our organizations, and help us rethink our society.

Florence Drouet : Low-tech project manager at Campus de la Transition
An optics engineer with a doctorate in image instrumentation and computing, Florence spent the early part of her career working for a number of high-tech companies (robotics, exo-skeletons, etc.). In 2020, she made a 360° turn and for the past 5 years has been supporting the implementation of a Low Tech approach at the Campus de la Transition (an eco-location and training facility located in the south of the Île-de-France region).

Vincent Liegey : engineer, interdisciplinary researcher, essayist and lecturer on Degrowth
Trained as an engineer, Vincent has been coordinator of Cargonomia (a community project in Budapest combining an organic farm, a workshop making cargo bikes and a cooperative courier business) for 10 years. A researcher, consultant and lecturer on Degrowth for almost 20 years, he is the author of "Sobriété, la vraie" (2023) and "Décroissance, fake or not" (2021).

Virginie Roffey - Juriste - Conseil et Formation en Environnement
After a career as a business lawyer in major international groups, Virginie has been specializing for the past 4 years in consulting and training for the Environment and Sustainable Development sector. She runs workshops to raise awareness of Low Tech at the Maison de la Planète (an eco-location dedicated to the ecological transition in Boulogne-Billancourt), and supports the École Comestible (a sustainable food education association).
